Fitness Tips 'n Tricks - Stretching

When you are stretching, you should be doing so when your muscles are warm, like after a workout.  As you stretch through your muscles you should stretch them to mild discomfort but not to the point of feeling pain.

It is wise to spend twice as much time stretching your tight muscles as your flexible muscles.

"Focus on problem areas instead of muscles that are already flexible," says Bill Bandy, Ph.D., a professor of physical therapy at the University of Central Arkansas.

This will ultimately help your overall flexibility in all muscle groups.
